About Us

The Bamberg/ Barnwell Adult Program is designed to provide instruction in basic education to the adult learner. Services range from individualized instruction for the nonreader, computer-aided instruction, GED preparation, and WorkKeys Enhancement curriculum classes. Day and evening classes are available throughout the year in Bamberg and Barnwell counties. The services of the adult learning program are free and available to anyone in the two-county area who meets enrollment criteria.

The environment in the classes offered is designed to give special attention to adults returning to school to resume educational programs which were interrupted in earlier years. Adult learners can be found refreshing reading, writing, and math skills to re-enter the job market after a layoff, preparing for the GED Tests to qualify for a job or educational program that requires a high school diploma to enter, or just working toward a personal educational goal.

A diagnostic test for all classes will be administered to properly identify each applicant’s functioning level. Advisement and scheduling are based on the test results. There is no cost for the adult education classes, and books are provided in the classroom at no cost.

Adult Education classes include instruction in reading readiness, reading comprehension, reading in the content areas, basic math skills, and an introduction to writing and grammar. The GED preparation classes provide instruction in the areas of reading, science, social studies, grammar and writing skills, and mathematics. These classes help develop the skills necessary for completion of the GED examination.
